Utilities World to supply a prepaid electricity system for Drakenstein Municipality

Utilities World, an associate of JSE listed Blue Label Telecoms, has been awarded the contract to supply a turnkey prepaid electricity system to the Drakenstein Municipality in the Western Cape.

“We are delighted to have been awarded the contract, which commenced on 1 February 2017” says Brian Hill, Sales and Service Director of Utilities World.

"This tender award gives us the ability to demonstrate our revenue protection and enhancement capabilities to a Western Cape municipality for the first time.  Besides providing a “best of breed” backend prepaid meter software system for the Municipality, we have also enlisted the assistance of our sister company Blue Label Telecoms to roll-out a comprehensive purchasing channels including all the digital banking platforms, formal retail as well as informal retail points. “

Drakenstein Municipality consumers can now purchase their prepaid electricity tokens conveniently, securely and hassle free 24/7.  Prepaid meter audits will also be carried out on behalf of the Municipality in order to implement remedial actions where customers are found to have illegally tampered with their meters. “

“We believe that we can significantly enhance and protect the prepaid electricity revenue of the Drakenstein Municipality” says Hill.

Drakenstein Municipality, a short drive from Cape Town, encompasses the towns of Paarl, Wellington, Hermon, Gouda and Saron and supports a 250 000 strong population.
